Green Espresso Cafe: My Best Bites of June 2024

I am pleased to announce my best bites of the month: the delicious panini wraps at Green Espresso Cafe on Middle Street!

But first…let me back up a bit.

Green Espresso

I’ve been on a serious stewed-chicken-with-rice-and-beans bender. I estimate that I ate it for lunch 6 days a week for the months of April, May and most of June.

My Overview on The Cuisine of Belize

In Belize, this is normal. In fact, many locals probably are perplexed right now: What did you eat on the 7th day?

The norm here is: A big hot lunch with rice every day.

But even though I’ve lived in San Pedro for over 17 years now, my stomach is American-born and raised. I can’t eat habanero…or even Marie Sharp mild hot sauce. And sometimes I don’t want hot food at lunch. Every few months, nostalgia or something hits and I’ll want cold cereal with milk for breakfast…or a diet Mountain Dew or a sandwich.

So…let me tell you about my favorite sandwiches in town – the wraps and paninis at Green Espresso on Middle Street.

BUT! if you haven’t kept up with previous months’ Best bites, you can see them here.

Dang I could go for some Coconut Cake right now

Panini Wraps at Green Espresso

I don’t want to quibble about the definition of sandwich. Is a hot dog a sandwich? A burrito…a burger…avocado toast? It doesn’t matter. Wraps and paninis, in my book, are sandwiches. And Green Espresso Cafe on Middle Street San Pedro makes some DELICIOUS ones.

What I love about Green Espresso’s wraps and paninis – they are GOOD SIZE. I often need to take half home. There is nothing worse than a too small or under stuffed sandwich. (I mean in sandwich terms…obvious there are worse things in the world) They come with cassava chips – which are extra crunchy and delicious. AND…especially nice when you are running errands around town in the summer heat – they have strong strong strong air conditioning and good Wi-Fi.

Yes, I love to enjoy an ocean breeze while eating…and an ocean view…but sometimes? I just want some air-conditioning.

Spacious and cool

Here are my photos. And you can see their hours and announcements on Facebook or their website.

I am a big fan of the Veggies and Pesto with Feta and the Chicken Basil…but they have a nice array of choices on the menu.

If you are a small group, snag the comfy couch in the back if you can.

The Chicken Basil wrap I enjoyed yesterday…

Not my best photography but the lighting is not super bright – which I also love

They have delicious icy drinks and juices too – we always stop in for the ginger-lime.

It comes frozen as well…

I almost always get a pot of tea. Because mid-day coffee makes me kinda insane…and I love the whole set-up. It feels so terribly civilized.

Let me know what you think! I’ve eaten the paninis there at least 5 times over the last few weeks and I still want more. I’m a big fan of Green Espresso…and if you haven’t been in? Now’s the time.

Holy Moley – what a menu!
    Starbucks? ‘phtt’…
    I could live here:
    Breakfast – open face toast
Lunch – salad & turkey rice bowl
Dinner – chicken basil panini wrap, plus libations from the bar. Pass out on the couch. Wake up in the morning and start again…

Oh my goodness that panini looks amazing! Just the kind of thing I would love, and especially the AC while out running errands in the hot summertime. And the cold juices, to die for.
