CHRISTMAS IS HERE! A Trip to Mirab is a MUST For the Holidays

I know I KNOW what you are thinking.  No Christmas until Thanksgiving is over.  But here’s the thing.  Thanksgiving is a VERY American holiday.   The fairy tale like story of American settlers and indigenous people coming together to feast.  The calm before the storm.

In Belize, especially on Ambergris Caye, many restaurants serve a delicious turkey dinner on Thanksgiving day to visitors and locals alike (expect a side of rice and beans) – and all sports bars will be showing American football – but it’s not a Belizean national holiday.

So…Christmas decorations can go up EARLY on Ambergris Caye.  Tropic Air terminal got it’s Christmas trees a few weeks back.

But I wasn’t feeling it yet.  The best remedy for that is A TRIP TO MIRAB Store in Belize City.  For the music and the decorations and the beautiful shopping.  Here are some pictures of my trip a few days ago – hope it gets you in the mood.

If you live in Belize – Mirab is A MUST for Christmas cheer.

I took the San Pedro Belize Express water taxi over – easy.  Takes about 1.5 hours to get there (stopping along the way in Caye Caulker) and man…it was a GORGEOUS day.

Leaving Ambergris Caye, I spotted two new birds waiting for scraps from a fisherman.  Brown boobies!  Love the blue-ish beaks.

Half Moon Caye is particularly famous for the red-footed Booby population – the trip out there is SOOOOOO beautiful.

Brown Booby birds

The beach has been just immaculate and the weather – cooler and GORGEOUS!

Once you unload off the water taxi, a taxi can take you to Mirabs Department store.  About 10 mins and $10bzd.

Here’s my last trip with pictures of the outside but this time, I was ALL ABOUT CHRISTMAS!

They have 1001 beautiful gift wrappings and bags.  The shoes are beautiful – I love that they are everything from glitter heels to Birkenstock like sandals.  Sneakers…

The cutest kids shoes.

I bought some new mugs – and considered getting another set of these glass bowls.  Bought them last year – and we use them every single day.  PERFECT for cutting back on plastic wrap.

Now that I’m home, I wish I got them.

Mostly I was just wandering around…touching beautiful things and singing along to Christmas tunes.

Pretty little things that are priced right.  Cute necklace.  I’ve been wanting a charm bracelet since basically I was 10 years old.

The accessories section is huge.

SO many cute nooks and displays where you NEED to take pictures.  Tough for a selfie but for the kids?  I might need to change it up…put on some evening wear…

Inspirational trees.  Are you more rose gold?

Or under-the-water themed?  How about for the kids rooms?

You could really go Christmas-crazy.

I became pretty convinced that I needed a 2 foot tall penguin.  For under the tree?  And only $46bzd?  I MEAN COME ON!

See him in the stuffed animal menagerie?

I didn’t get him 🙁

I stuck to my Christmas tree theme – Outdoor Chic?  Flyfishing Fantasy?  I’m not sure exactly what the theme is but I KNEW the tree would need these silver glitter pinecones.

8 pines cones.  $7bzd.  Perfect.

I seriously left the store on a Holiday high.  And headed home to put up our tree.

Here are some pictures from last night at Cayo Frances Farm & Fly.

Not on Mirab’s level YET but I’m loving it.

Flies and Belize City bicycle license plates and bobbers, shells and seabeans.

For more information on Mirab’s hours and sales – see their Facebook page.  And don’t forget that they also have a GORGEOUS stand-alone furniture gallery and a seriously aspirational third floor with beautiful Ashley furniture (check out the grand opening about 1 year ago.)
