2015: What A Year To Be in Belize! Part One

I had a great year.  Plain and simple.  Ups and downs for sure…but great.

Ambergris Caye, the area most visited by overnight guests, also had a big year.  Since I first visited in 2006, it was the year of the most changes – and most of those changes came by the way of the newly paved road north – which really broadened the area we consider easily accessible – and for me, the number of vehicles on this island.

But let me get back to me 🙂 and show you a bit of what I did this year in Belize.  2014 was the year of TRAVEL but I did get myself around a bit this year.  And next year?  I want to pick it up again…way up.

PLUS, I want to visit India on this crazy cool blogging trip.  IF you haven’t voted for me yet, I’ll make yet another plea.  Thank you….it just takes a moment.  (And you can only vote once.)  Voting ends December 31st.   TO VOTE!

It started with LOVE.  A surprise proposal at Grand Caribe Resort – one in which I was part of the trickery.  My semi-pretend interview.

I had a 24 hour stay-cation at Ramon’s Village and…was thoroughly impressed.

Jerry Jeff Walker, Texas musician and a bit of a legend, played in San Pedro…and has been doing so for years.  His shows make this “not exactly a country fan”, a Jerry Jeff fan.

His 2016 Camp Belize gigs are already sold out.

Another staycation.  But this time, 14 miles north at Tranquility Bay Resort.  Heavenly trip.

GOOD GRIEF WHAT A LOCATION!

And then the area…you can walk a mile or so north to where the reef meets the land.

I then headed (somewhat hesitantly) south for Belize’s First Electronic Music festival.  I LOVE Placencia.  The music wasn’t exactly my thing.

But the resort was fab.  Belize Ocean Club.

And I cruised around the peninsula to see what was new and to…eat.   There were two parts:  ONE and TWO.  (Sensibly named, huh?)

I was able to hit Maya Beach Bistro – my favorite restaurant in Belize – for at least 3 meals.  Including the delicious duck hash breakfast…mmmmm….

Another Texas favorite around these part, Kelly McGuire, can to visit and do a few performances.  He PACKED the Palapa Bar…the place was literally rocking.

And according to his schedule for 2016, he’s blocked off January 30 to February 10th to make the trip 🙂 down to Ambergris Caye.

I headed to Belize City for the 2nd Annual “Meet in the Middle” Harley Davidson Rally.   Belize’s club, The Black Pearls.

The bikers from all over Mexico and Central America then took a trip to Caye Caulker.  Black leather and a tiny Caribbean sandbar?  YES!

I visited the leeward side of Ambergris Caye – crystal clear waters and sand bars perfect for lounging.

Estel’s Dine by the Sea hosted a HUGE BBQ cook-off.  Great food..super fun time.

I went to the zoo to celebrate the GORGEOUS Jr Buddy’s 8th birthday party.   Belize’s most photographed jaguar celebrated with a leg of something…and a nap.

And I got to act foolish for the kids.

And then Carnival/Carnaval in Belize.  Super fun.  This year will be early February again.  Mardi Gras/Fat Tuesday is February 9th.  SO San Pedro’s Carnival is the few days before that.  Sunday and Monday for the kids and Tuesday for the adults.

The controversy in Caye Caulker was heating up…ownership/leasing rights to the FAMOUS bar at the Split were in court…and the bar was without liquor for at least a few days.

I went to check it all out.  MAN THAT CAYE IS GORGEOUS!

AND that takes me to the end of February.   JUST TWO MONTHS!?!?!

I will have some new material tomorrow for Christmas Day.  Until then, have a lovely day Christmas eve, leave out the proper accoutrements for Santa Claus and…enjoy the holidays.
